The Cape Argus cycle challenge is the largest timed cycling event in the world and around 30,000 cyclists descend on Cape Town annually in March to take part in it.  The event enjoys extensive media and television coverage and is a big financial injection for the City of Cape Town and Western Cape, since a large percentage of participants hail from other provinces, especially Gauteng.  Needless, to say, accommodation is in short supply during the weeks around race date.
