Before you venture out onto the open water armed with your new kite and board you should consider enrolling for a few kitesurfing lessons at Langebaan.

What You Will Learn On Your First Day

You cannot even think of kitesurfing if you don’t have an understanding of the wind directions. We teach you to how to identify the wind directions, recognise hazards and how to avoid such. You will learn how to set-up your trainers kite.

Safety

Safety is extremely important in this sport. As such we teach you everything you need to know about safety systems. Once you have mastered such you will learn how to launch and land a trainer kite within the correct wind windows. You will be able to setup a 4/5 line kite, do pre-flight inspections of the equipment as well as in-flight checks.

You will learn how to use international communication signals and how to control the kite hooked to your harness in addition to mastering the quick release. You will be working with the recovering bar and kite and finally also how to do a self-landing.

You will need to complete to Level 2 to become an independent kite surfer and to receive the IKO certification. This will take about two days. You have the option of completing a third day and thus more advanced level as well. If you only complete Level 1, you will still need to complete the remaining part of Level 2 before you get your certification of competency for it, but you will get a certificate of competence for Level 1. This means that you can complete Level 2 at a later stage to get higher certification.
